Doom 3 BFG edition, a revamped and bulked up version of the fantastic shooter has been announced for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it’s coming this fall.
Activision brought news of the re-release, which will come packaged with Doom, Doom 2 and The Lost Mission, an unseen single-player expansion for Doom 3 featuring 7 all-news levels.
The new edition features re-mastered graphics, 5.1 surround sound, support for 3D and head-mounted displays plus upgraded lighting and rendering.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 editions will be kitted with a selection of Achievements and trophies, respectively.
The revamp will also feature a checkpoint save system, said to bring “smoother progression” as players make their way through its terrifying levels. Our protagonist has also been given an armor-mounted flashlight to enable him to see what he’s shooting, which bears a strikingly similar resemblance to the famous Duct Tape Mod, which, if you didn’t know or hadn’t guessed, strapped a flashlight to the gun in the original Doom 3.
“Doom 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” id Software boss John Carmack explained. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.”
“New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”
