The Division 2 Coming to Epic Games Store, Not Steam

Don’t expect to add The Division 2 to your Steam wishlist any time soon.

The PC version of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is dodging Steam and will be exclusively released on the Epic Games store instead. According to a report from GamesIndustry, Ubisoft and Epic have entered a partnership to bring the upcoming sequel to Epic’s newly launched digital distribution platform. Several other Ubisoft titles will launch on Epic’s platform in the coming year.

If you were looking to grab the PC version of The Division 2, then your options will be to download the title from the Epic Games store, or directly from Ubisoft.  The game has already been removed from the Steam client. The exclusivity is limited to the PC version of The Division 2, with Ubisoft confirming that “pre-orders placed on other platforms would be unaffected by the decision.”

The appeal of the Epic Games store likely comes from the smaller cut they take from sales on their platform versus other third-party competitors. While Valve takes a 30% cut from sales on Steam, Epic only takes a 12% cut on the Epic Games store, making it a much more lucrative choice for publishers. “We aim to provide the most publisher-friendly store, providing direct access to customers and an 88% revenue split, enabling game creators to further re-invest in building great games,” said Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic.

If the Epic Games store exclusivity isn’t going to stop you from getting the PC version of The Division 2, then you may want to brush up on the PC system requirements for the game ahead of launch to ensure your gaming rig is ready to go come March 15.
