Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches Tips

Return to Dunwall one last time.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

The final chapter of the Dishonored saga, The Brigmore Witches, is now available through Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam/PC for $9.99. In it, you once again play as Daud, the assassin responsible for setting the tale in motion in the first place with events that immediately follow The Knife of Dunwall, which came out this past April.

Minor spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution.

What’s the Story?

Following the events from the Knife of Dunwall, Daud focuses on Delilah Copperspoon, the leader of a deadly coven of witches, known as the Brigmore Witches. She’s cooked up a nasty ritual where, through the power of a magical painting, she’ll be able to inhabit and control the mind of young Emily Kaldwin, the daughter of the murdered Empress who would become ruler of Dunwall.

Over the course of his journey, Daud will use every power imaginable to stop her – though that eventually means a trip to the Void, an alternate dimension where she’s found sanctuary to complete the painting.

Chaos Is (Or Isn’t) Your Friend

As with previous chapters in the Dishonored saga, The Brigmore Witches depends greatly on your chaos level. The more disruptive Daud’s actions are, the more of an effect they have in the world.

For instance, if Daud leaves blood spilled from killing enemies outright or making hasty decision – like assassinating someone instead of taking their information and leaving them alive – circumstances become more dire around him. Furthermore, characters have less consideration for him due to his actions – like Corvo, who eventually comes face-to-face with him in the main story mode and must decide whether he lives or dies. The Brigmore Witches ties closely into that near its conclusion.

It’s up to you how you want to play the game. Going for a lower Chaos level means you’ll need to perform more stealth actions, though you’ll be able to get the hang of this with your special abilities, such as Blink and Time Bend. If you prefer, you can achieve higher Chaos by killing every enemy you run into, though you may want to watch out for more rats and plague victims as a result.

Not a Clean Slate

Another thing to keep in mind for The Brigmore Witches is that you aren’t starting fresh when it comes to Chaos. All of your previous settings, as well as upgrades and weapons, will carry over from your Knife of Dunwall progress. So, if you prefer to start with a lower level, either stick with sneaking around, or play the previous DLC again.

Back To Prison

The Brigmore Witches DLC actually starts in a familiar place: Coldridge Prison, where Corvo first escaped in the beginning of the game. You’ll be able to explore more this time around, as guards won’t be chasing after you so often as you dwell through the halls. You can really put Daud’s powers to the test here, particularly Blink, which allows him to rapidly teleport from point A to point B – even to a higher up ledge – with ease.

While you’re here, there are things you can do on the side, such as freeing prisoners that earn your sympathy – wait until you hear everything they have t say before making a decision – and intervening in the execution of guards responsible for Corvo’s initial escape. It’s up to you whether you want to save them or not, but it’s probably a good idea to do so if you want a lower Chaos rating.

Drapers Ward

Here is where most of Brigmore Witches’ story takes place, as you’ll find yourself exploring the city through connected areas, while making allegiances with one of two gangs – the Hatters or the Eels. They’ve been at each other’s throats for some time, and you’ll need to decide carefully which side to choose when it comes to getting help in hunting down Delilah. It really depends on your level of Chaos, whether you want to go on a blood-spilling rampage, or proceed with caution. Either way, you’ll get closer to the Brigmore coven eventually.

Before you set out on the mission, you’ll want to stop and purchase supplies, which will come in handy over the course of the mission. Some are cheaper than others, depending what you’re in the need for. One particular item, the cutter, will come in handy for stealth players, as you can slice holes into walls to get a better idea how to sneak past adversaries, rather than killing them. Take the time to shop around before you head off into gang territory.

Runes and Bone Charms

Also, don’t forget to keep an eye open for Runes and Bone Charms. Runes will play a huge part in upgrading Daud’s powers to higher levels, which he’ll need when he eventually comes face-to-face with Delilah. Meanwhile, Bone Charms add “buffs” and permanent boosts to Daud’s abilities, improving upon his overall performance. They may take a while to find, but they’re well worth seeking out.

Face-To-Face

Finally, you’ll be able to catch up with Delilah after departing Drapers Ward. She’ll be within the Void, just about finished with Emily’s painting. She puts up quite a fight with her black magic, but as long as you use Daud’s capabilities to avoid her attacks and strike back, you should be fine.

Again, players will have a decision to make by the time she’s defeated, depending on what Chaos level you’re after. If it’s high Chaos, you can simply kill her. However, if you prefer a less dire ending, you can simply replace Emily’s painting with that of the Void, disrupting Delilah’s ritual as a result.

These will play a HUGE part in how Daud’s fate is decided by the conclusion, with Corvo either killing him – with a high Chaos level – or sparing him – with a low Chaos level. Again, it’s your choice how you want to play.

Good luck, and enjoy the final go-around.
