This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

You’ll find plenty of new features and weapons in Destiny: The Taken King. Chief among them are three swords: Void Edge, Sol Edge and Arc Edge. This feature will tell you how to unlock these swords. In order to do this, you must finish Eris Morn’s quest, A Broken Will.  However, you will need to meet different requirements. Follow these steps and you should receive one sword in roughly 30 minutes.

When finished, it’s time to explore the universe and kill aliens with these cool weapons. When you get your fill of destruction, head to Prima’s Destiny: The Taken King Walkthrough and Guide.

How to Unlock A Broken Will

To gain access to A Broken Will, you first need to finish all of The Taken King story missions, including the final mission on the Dreadnaught, Regicide.  When this happens, you’ll then move on to yet another quest, Dread Patrol. To pick up this quest, go to the Tower and visit Cayde-6 in the Hall of Guardians.

When Dread Patrol is complete, head back to the Tower and chat with Eris Morn. She will then pass on A Broken Will, allowing you to acquire either the Void Edge, Sol Edge or Arc Edge sword.

A Broken Will – Speak to Lord Shaxx

First up, talk to Shaxx, who is right near Eris Morn. This is without question the easiest part of the quest and the challenge is yet to come. From here, you’re off to the Dreadnaught ship.

A Broken Will – Reforging the Blade

Lord Shaxx requests 10 Motes of Light and 25 Hadium Flakes. Providing you followed these tips exactly, there should be an option to go on patrol aboard Oryx’s Dreadnaught ship. Go to Orbit and then select the Level 35 patrol.

This takes you to an area known as the Hull Breach. Begin by walking towards the middle of this area. Look up and make note of the crashed spacecraft, and look directly below this ship to see a ravine. Follow the ravine and you’ll discover a tunnel taking you to a place known as the Mausoleum. When you arrive, gather the 25 Hadium Flakes. You might be able to find this stuff elsewhere, but we consider this the easiest path to completing one of Shaxx’s requests.

Continue by moving clockwise and be on the lookout for several rooms. Enter these rooms and ropen all of the chests to pick up Hadium Flakes. Although you will see two or three chests at a time, looping around causes more to respawn. If this doesn’t happen, return to Hull Breach and then come back. The entire process will take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Of course, this wouldn’t be Destiny without a little grind.

With the necessary amount of Hadium Flakes in your possession, go to the Tower and talk to Shaxx. There’s no icon indicating he wants to chat, but engage him in conversation anyway. In addition, make sure you have the 10 Motes of Light, 25 Spinmetal, 25 Helium Filaments or 25 Relic Iron.  Only one of these resources is needed, and changes depending on which sword you want.

  • Arc Edge – 25 Spinmetal
  • Sol Edge – 25 Helium Filaments
  • Void Edge – 25 Relic Iron

A Broken Will – Withstand the Elements

Hand over the resources and you will have the privilege of choosing one of three swords, all of which deal unique damage. We suggest going with a different damage type for each one of your Guardians, providing you play with two or three. Keep in mind you must do the quest over to select the other swords, but after a while, the Void Edge, Sol Edge and Arc Edge will be yours.
