Destiny 2 Crossplay Will Include Cross-Generational Play

Not ready to make that next-generation leap? You don't have to, at least when it comes to Destiny 2.

The next generation of gaming is looming over our heads and many fans of online games are wondering if they are going to be forced to make the switch when it comes to playing with friends. During Tuesday’s showcase, Bungie confirmed that they are working on making Destiny 2 improvements for next-gen in terms of performance, but they added that they are also working on cross-generational crossplay with PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

With three full expansions on the way starting with Beyond Light in September, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall, there is going to be a lot of content for Guardians to enjoy. Because of that, making the necessary improvements for PlayStation 5 players and Xbox Series X players is vital but what does that mean for Xbox One and PS4 fans? For those that are wanting to play with friends despite the generational gap, Bungie is dedicating the necessary resources to make sure that Guardians can do just that. This takes a little pressure off the need to upgrade while also allowing those that do go into next-gen to still enjoy the D2 experience with friends and clanmates.

As for the immediate road ahead, Destiny 2: Season of Arrivals goes live today, including a brand-new dungeon with a pretty sweet armor drop to earn. You can learn more about the new Prophecy dungeon with our previous coverage here, as well as a sneak peek at Beyond Light in the trailer above.

As for Beyond Light dropping on September 22nd, the newest expansion to arrive this Fall will follow the Drifter, Eris, and Exo Stranger as they fight side-by-side with Guardians against a dark and mysterious new power with Stasis. Players can also harness this power for themselves alongside the Void, Solar, and Arc abilities!

Players will also face off against the mysterious Pyramid ship and its inhabitants, all of which rally underneath the banner of the Fallen Kell of Darkness, Eramis. There will definitely be more to love and Bungie promises a few closer looks at Beyond Light over the next few months. For now, we’ve got a trailer, we’ve got a release date, and we’ve got a new dungeon to tackle!
