If you've been wanting to crack into the latest Destiny 2 content but haven't quite managed to get around to shelling out for the Annual Pass and were just waiting for the price to drop, then your prayers have been answered. That's right: the latest development from Bungie in the lead up to Shadowkeep is that all Forsaken owners can get the Destiny 2 Annual Pass free after this week's update.

The Destiny 2 annual pass has been packed full of content and has been instrumental in tiding us Guardians over as we wait for more content. Bungie's latest offer is that Destiny 2 Forsaken owners will receive all Year 2 annual pass content completely for free, which we'd definitely consider a boon. While Shadowkeep will see the game transitioning to an entirely different monetary model when it comes to content (i.e. buying the premium bits that you want and enjoying the free to play material for everything else), that hasn't stopped Bungie from literally giving away boatloads of content before October 1.

Bungie announced this a few days ago when they were also talking about the upcoming content plans for Destiny 2, which included the surprise announcement of a 5-year plan. Talk about taking games as a service to the next level: we've got insurance plans that aren't going to be around as long as the Destiny universe. The Year 2 Annual pass that you'll get for free as a Forsaken owner will include:

  • Black Armory
  • Season of the Drifter
  • Season of Opulence

If you were looking for things to do while waiting for Shadowkeep to land, then this should definitely keep you well-occupied. There's a whole ton of stuff kicking around in there, particularly with the Season of Opulence and wrapping that up. You haven't got long now to make your mark, but it's definitely possible to grind out your Light level and get ready for the next big in-game content drop with how Bungie has decided to make the Destiny 2 Annual Pass free.
