Dear Gamers.

If you were sick of black text on a yellow background, I have some bad news for you. Today CD Projekt Red released a roughly five-minute video apologizing for everything that went wrong with Cyberpunk 2077 in the days leading up to launch.

CD Projekt Red Co-Founder Marcin Iwiński Explains Cyberpunk 2077’s Rough Launch In New Video

The video, which can be seen below, features Marcin Iwiński, one of the co-founders of CD Projekt Red. In the video, he states that this was the fault of himself and the other board members who have “The final decision-makers.’

He goes on to talk about how their primary focus was to make the game look epic on PC and then scale it down to run on older-gen hardware. This led to extra work for the team because the two’s technological gap grew further and further apart.

Marcin sidesteps a lot of the blame for the poor review copy situation by just stating that the team was working hard right up until the finals days before launch. It wasn’t much of an apology for console players, but he did pivot to talking about the future of Cyberpunk 2077.

Below you can find a timeline of what players can expect for updates in 2021. Marcin also states there will be another small update in “less than ten days.”

There is also a Q&A on their website where they dive into things with a little more detail and clarity.

“Q: What was the main issue that made development for consoles that difficult?

A: The main culprit was having to constantly improve our in-game streaming system for old-gen consoles. Streaming is responsible for “feeding” the engine with what you see on screen, as well as the game mechanics. Since the city is so packed and the disk bandwidth of old-gen consoles is what it is, this is something that constantly challenged us.”
