On social media, Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red took a moment to demonstrate what The Witcher 3 looks like running on Valve’s handheld gaming device, the Steam Deck.
CD Projekt Red posted not one, but three short clips, each showing a different aspect of the game and how it performs on Steam Deck. Among the clips, we can see Geralt galloping around on Roach, Geralt fighting enemies, and Geralt running through the forest.

If you pre-ordered a Steam Deck and are curious how games like The Witcher 3 run on it you’re in luck as a few clips were recently posted to social media by developer CD Projekt Red. Each clip offers a brief glimpse at the game’s performance.
Specifically, CD Projekt Red shared three clips of The Witcher 3 running on Steam Deck, with each clip focused on a different aspect of the game from horseback riding to combat to general running around type exploration.
All three clips look great, though we kind of wish CD Projekt Red had done a side-by-side comparison of The Witcher 3 running on Nintendo Switch versus The Witcher 3 running on Steam Deck to see which handheld performed better.
Either way though, seeing visual confirmation that The Witcher 3 runs well on Steam Deck is undoubtedly reassuring for people who purchased a Steam Deck and plan to play The Witcher 3 on it.
Some commenters did express frustration that CD Projekt Red took the time to show The Witcher 3 running on Steam Deck at all given the remaining issues CDPR is actively working through with other projects, namely Cyberpunk 2077.
However, it’s worth keeping in mind that other developers have shown off similar clips, noting that Steam Deck can run their games without them having to do anything at all. This is likely the case with The Witcher 3, where CD Projekt Red simply installed the game on the Steam Deck they received and are playing through it to see how the game performs.
And from the clips shown, it obviously performs well. So if you’ve been wondering whether or not the Steam Deck you pre-ordered can handle games like The Witcher 3, it looks like the answer here is yes, it can.
After checking out the clips of The Witcher 3 running on Steam Deck, do you have any thoughts? Are you also wishing CD Projekt Red had shown a side-by-side comparison of The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch versus The Witcher 3 on Steam Deck?
