It feels like it has taken ages to get to this point, but the day is finally upon us. To the surprise of not too many people, this year’s installment of the long running franchise has officially been revealed to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

A new teaser has made its way to the Internet (thanks, charlieINTEL) and has since spread at a rather rapid pace. This is to be expected, of course, as it is the highly anticipated next entry in the Call of Duty franchise. The video in question doesn’t feature much in terms of gameplay, but instead contains real video footage from the period of the Cold War. The point being made, as the teasers have been getting at recently, is that it is best to know your history or be doomed to repeat it.

As can be seen in the video above, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War teaser features footage from a real interview with KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov, who talks about the various ways the Soviet Union was working against the United States and looking to undermine the country. “It’s a slow process which we called active measures,” he says. He then goes on to describe Normalization, which is “what will happen in the United States if you allow all the schmucks to put Big Brother government in Washington D.C. who will promise loads of things, no matter where the promises were fulfilled or not.”

He warns that “the time bomb is ticking,” and that “the danger is real.” Throughout the video, we see clips of everything from the Vietnam War and civil rights protests to Ronald Regan’s speeches and more. The teaser itself came to light following what was essentially a multi-day scavenger hunt that led to secret rooms within Verdansk, the setting for Call of Duty: Warzone. Once the ARG was complete, the teaser was revealed.
