Gearbox revealed their Borderlands 2 Celebration of Togetherness video earlier today, though there was a bit of miscommunication leading up to the latest trailer. When Gearbox first revealed the celebratory video earlier this week, many outlets thought that the ‘togetherness’ was a clue about crossplay. Unfortunately for those hoping for Borderlands 3 crossplay at launch, CEO Randy Pitchford has some bad news.

“Some folks may be speculating that this thing tomorrow may be about cross-play,” began his Twitter post ahead of the now-today’s new reveal. “Tomorrow’s thing is awesome, but *not* about cross-play. But, Good News: We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch”

He then added, “To be clear, there will not be any crossplay functionality in Borderlands 3 at launch as we work closely with our partners to create a positive crossplay experience as soon as practicable. We are committed to crosssplay on as many platforms as possible.”

While bummer on that news, it is nice to see that it’s still in the cards. In the meantime, you can check out the “So Happy Together” video at the top of the article ahead of Borderlands 3’s release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on September 13th.
