Barry Sanders is taking the field again. Not in real life…but in Madden.
The retired Detroit Lions running back, who made a fantastic career out of scoring touchdowns, has been named the cover star for EA Sports’ upcoming Madden NFL 25 that commemorates the 25th anniversary of the long-running football series.
The announcement was made last night during a special live SportsNation broadcast, taking place in New York City before tonight’s NFL draft. Barry Sanders faced off against Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in a feverish voting competition and Sanders won by a margin of 58 percent to 42 percent.
Sanders previously appeared on the cover of NCAA Football 13 alongside Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and was also featured in the background for Madden NFL 2000 alongside John Madden.
One thing’s for sure: he won’t have to worry about the “Madden Curse” since he’s retired. Congrats to Barry!
Madden NFL 14 will hit stores on August 30th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
