Fans were a bit disappointed when Larian Studios revealed a small delay for Baldur’s Gate 3’s Early Access period, but it was noted that the launch date would be disclosed during their Panel From Hell livestream on August 18th, and the big day has arrived. Not only do we know when Early Access begins, but we also got an extended opening cinematic along with some gameplay.
During the 90-minute livestream, Geoff Keighley sat down with Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke and Adam Smith as well as Wizards of the Coast’s Chris Perkins to talk about the highly anticipated title. It was during their discussion that fans learned Baldur’s Gate 3 will be entering Early Access on September 30th for PC and Google Stadia. In addition to learning the release date, we also got to see some new gameplay as well as more of the opening cinematic, which can be viewed in the livestream below:
We’ve gotten short looks at the opening cinematic in the past, but the one that kicks off the Panel From Hell is indeed the full video. Throughout the livestream above, there are a few looks at gameplay peppered into the discussion. As for the actual talking, however, we learn more about the Early Access period. It will feature 20 hours of content that will take players through early Hell stages as well as the mortal realm. These 20 magical hours will consist of quite a bit, including 596 interactable characters, 80 combat encounters, 146 spells and actions, and more.
Needless to say, there will be plenty to do during Baldur’s Gate 3’s Early Access, and players will have access to five Origin characters upon launch. These include the Elf/Vampire Rogue Astarion, the Githyanki Warrior Lae’zel, the Human Wizard Gale, the Human Warlock Wyll, and the Half-Elf Cleric Shadowheart. More characters are planned to be revealed during the Early Access period.
