As part of its Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this morning, Nintendo of America unveiled the official title for its forthcoming Nintendo 3DS sequel to Animal Crossing.  The game will be co-titled New Leaf, and as you can see from the new trailer here, it’s got something to offer to fans and newcomers alike.

Though general gameplay hasn’t been revealed as of yet, New Leaf looks to include traditional Animal Crossing elements, including customizing your town to your liking and interacting with a number of memorable characters.  And yes, K.K. Slider is back, like clockwork, this time spinning his wares as a DJ.

The game is likely to include some sort of online interaction, and also some new mini-games that are bound to take advantage of either the 3D technology or the touch-screen.

We’ll have a full preview of the game in the weeks ahead.  Though it still doesn’t have a release date to speak of, we expect it to arrive sometime in early 2013.
