When Nintendo teased Animal Crossing for the Switch, fans of the adorable game franchise went nuts with the possibilities. With the Nintendo Switch being so versatile as a hybrid console, a new installment for the Animal Crossing fandom was more than a little enticing. For those that are looking to take on this new adventure with friends, it’s been confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will offer up to 8-player co-op gameplay goodness.
With the upcoming Animal Crossing game, up to 8 players can share an island to experience the new adventure together. If you’re looking for some couch co-op action, a local shared experience can house up to 4 players. So now you can fish and get cutesy with friends for yet another new Animal Crossing good time, which honestly? That’s a win.
For those looking to play with up to 8 friends, keep in mind that an active Nintendo Switch Online account is necessary in order to play together. That means every player needs to have the online subscription service. If they don’t, then the online shared experience isn’t doable outside of a local couch co-op invitation.
This isn’t the first time there’s been online play in Animal Crossing but that doesn’t make the confirmation any less exciting. Opening up the experience to up to 8 players is even more so.
News of Animal Crossing was first announced back in September 2018 and Nintendo fans went nuts with the very first teaser trailer. Ever since the Nintendo Switch launched, there were two IPs that seemed to have the most impassioned fans: Super Smash Bros. and Animal Crossing. With Smash already out and a huge success, it’s about high time for Animal Crossing to finally make its appearance.
Animal Crossing New Horizons arrives on the Switch on March 3, 2020.
