Alan Wake 2 Hits Another Major Sales Milestone
Champion of the light!
It took a while for Alan Wake 2 to turn a profit, but it sold two million copies early last year, and today Remedy announced that the critically acclaimed title has surpassed another major milestone. Alan Wake 2 has now sold three million copies across all platforms.
Alan Wake 2 Sells Three Million Copies
Remedy announced in its Half-Year Financial Report for January–June 2026 that Alan Wake 2 has surpassed three million copies in lifetime sales.
The milestone was reached during Q2 2026, and royalties from both Alan Wake 2 and Alan Wake Remastered came entirely from consumer sales during this period, with no platform deal accruals. Since Remedy last reported Alan Wake 2’s sales at 2 million copies in February 2025, the game has sold at least another 1 million copies.

According to the report, other titles in the series, including Alan Wake and Alan Wake Remastered, sold at the expected back-catalog pace, though no notable figures were shared.
Alan Wake 2’s consumer sales continued at an expected pace alongside Alan Wake Remastered. In the second quarter, royalties from both titles were generated entirely by consumer sales and there were no platform deal accruals. Alan Wake 2's lifetime sales exceeded 3 million copies during Q2. Rest of the games in the Alan Wake franchise sold at a normal back-catalogue pace.
Unfortunately, overall game sales and royalties declined year-over-year, primarily because the comparison period included the launch of FBC: Firebreak, which was a commercial and critical letdown. Q2 2026 game sales and royalties generated €3.8 million, compared with €9.5 million in Q2 2025. That’s a huge difference, but things are tracking well for the upcoming Control Resonant release.

It can be argued that Alan Wake 2 would’ve sold much better if it hadn’t launched as an Epic exclusive and had been available on other PC storefronts like Steam, but the fact is that without Epic’s funding, Alan Wake 2 wouldn’t have existed in the first place.
It’s still encouraging to see Alan Wake 2 continue to sell three years after its release and hit major sales milestones, and I hope that Remedy can continue to do more with the beloved IP, especially given how much remains unanswered and unresolved at the end of Alan Wake 2. It helps that their games are now essentially part of a shared universe, so I’m expecting more from Alan Wake, in some form, in Control Resonant as well.
As good as their games are, Remedy’s financials haven’t always been stellar, and the studio relies on external funding to continue working. Thankfully, enough publishers, including Rockstar Games, are interested in its high-quality work, with the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake being entirely funded by the publisher.
