Fans of the Call of Duty franchise have a lot of reasons to be happy these days. For starters, they’re less than a month away from getting their hands on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare this November 4, 2014. Secondly, those that purchase the game on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 can download a free copy of Advanced Warfare on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. It’s Activision’s hope that this will help players make a smoother transition to the next generation of gaming.

As players might expect, this offer does come with a couple of catches, the first being that the previous generation copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare would have to be purchased prior to March 31, 2015. Additionally, this free upgrade only applies to digitally purchased copies of the game and not physical discs that are typically sold at retail locations.

Besides the possibility of a free game to help kick off their next generation experience right, players will also be happy to learn that as long as they keep the same PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag, they’ll bring their DLC purchases and in-game stats with them as well.

For those that are planning to make the jump to the next generation this coming holiday season, it might be worth picking up Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare digitally. It’s beats paying for the game twice.
