A forcefield barrier blocks your way to where the Inquisitor is. How you use the Githyanki Barrier Disruptor in Baldur’s Gate 3 is by placing a Gith Shard in it. You can get your hands on this shard two different ways. Either you fight for it, or pickpocket it.

After trying to get Lae’zel cleansed of the parasite in the Infirmary, it completely broke the machine. The doctor locked my party inside the room, so we ended up having to break out and fight everyone. Then, inside the Captain’s Quarters, you can try to tell them about the doctor. Once you enter the room, a cutscene will begin, showing the Captain removing something from the Disruptor. Now you should know that she holds the item you seek.

If you talk to her, the Captain asks that you hand over the artifact, but I didn’t want to, which started a fight. After taking everyone down, you can find the Gith Shard on the Captain’s body. Of course, while she’s still alive, you can pickpocket it from her. But it’d be hard to activate the Barrier Disruptor without everyone noticing, so I just recommend engaging in the fight.

Now, with the Gith Shard in hand, just interact with the Barrier Disruptor, and insert it. The barrier will disappear, and you’re free to keep exploring to find your way towards the Inquisitor.
