Planet Zoo 2 has a stacked roster of creatures from around the world, but ever since aquatic creatures were announced for the game, a big topic has been whether dolphins, whales and other cetaceans will be featured.

The world has come a long way in the decades since the likes of Zoo Tycon: Marine Mania, which featured a plethora of whale, dolphins, and similar species, and Planet Zoo 2 is firmly focused on portraying a realistic representation of the zoos around the world and the work they do.

Naturally, the topic of dolphins and whales will continue to come up, and we’ve got all the information we know so far here.

Are There Dolphins & Whales in Planet Zoo 2?

No, Frontier Developments confirmed ahead of launch that cetaceans would not feature in Planet Zoo 2 at launch, with comments made early following the initial announcement of the game, which read:

“Whilst we know dolphins, whales and porpoises are popular species in the natural world, it is important to us that all animals represented in Planet Zoo 2 have environments that best reflect their requirements.

“We’re mindful that there is a lot of ongoing research on conservation for cetaceans and how re-wilding programmes for species within this group are handled by modern aquariums. As with a number of other species, we’re keeping a close eye on how the conservation community’s work evolves in this area.

Will Dolphins & Whales Come to Planet Zoo 2?

The door isn’t closed on dolphins, whales and other cetaceans coming to Planet Zoo 2 in the future, though it seems like a long-term prospect rather than a contender to be added shortly post-launch.

As Frontier stated in its comments on the matter, the team is keeping a close eye on conservationists studying this area, but even then, it’s highly unlikely that you will be able to adopt dolphins and whales to add to aquariums in your zoo.

Instead, a more likely scenario would revolve around the Wildlife Reserves, potentially with players constructing a location that can house injured and sick cetaceans until they are well enough to be released back into the wild.

This has challenges of its own, however, particularly as all the Wildlife Reserves in Planet Zoo 2 at launch are mostly focused on terrestrial animals, and while you can release some aquatic creatures, there isn’t an aquatic-focused area, like a coral reef, to release creatures into.
