Once you reach the Goblin Camp and the Shattered Sanctum, you can access the backroom on the west side after eliminating Priestess Gut and taking her key, which will bring you to the Defiled Temple and the subsequent Moon puzzle.

After eliminating High Priestess Gut, entering her chambers, and then defeating her ogre bodyguard Polma, you’ll find yourself in the Defiled Temple. Continue onward and you’ll be in a rather quaint, shrine-like area.

It’s peaceful and serene, and yet it has a curious-looking puzzle on the floor. This is what Baldur’s Gate 3 players have affectionately called the Moon Puzzle — or the stone disc puzzle.

Note: Before doing this stone disc puzzle, split up your party so that only one character is interacting with the puzzle and others don’t get in the way.

There are four circle plates on the floor that can be rotated. On the four plates are four circles, some white and some black. The goal is to get all the black circles on the circle plate that the light is shining on. It’s the plate closest to the door you came in.

The location of the black and white circles may be randomized every time, so there isn’t a pattern that I can tell you to follow. Basically, you just need to rotate the plates until the black circles reach the bottom. Where the plates overlap is where you’ll take the black circles from one plate to another. Continue to do this until all black circles are on the bottom plate.

As much as possible, try not to realign the top plate if it’s got full moon symbols already. Instead, just use one of the side plates and the bottom plate if you need to rotate any of the remaining black circle symbols to be where they’re supposed to be.

Once it’s completed, this is what the completed stone disc puzzle looks like:

When you’re done with the Moon Puzzle, the back wall will reveal a hidden passageway. It’s time to exit the Defiled Temple and go to the Underdark and finally find the Nightsong.
