Wii Sports was a huge phenomenon when it released in 2006 – how could it not be? Nintendo’s sports compilation perfectly captured the excitement of real sports into a convenient control set-up, utilizing the Wii remote and Nunchuk almost perfectly. No wonder it became an overnight success for the company.
Now, it’s back – well, part of it, anyway. Wii Sports Club has launched for the Wii U eShop, bringing back tennis and bowling for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s local living room romps or online through the Nintendo Network. Other sports activities, including baseball, golf and boxing, will arrive in 2014, but for now, you can enjoy two of the more popular ones.
How do I download Wii Sports Club?
If you have SpotPass activated already, it will do this automatically. If not, head over to the Wii U eShop page (it looks like an orange bag at the bottom of the main menu) and you’ll see it right at the top.
How much hard drive space do I need for Wii Sports Club?
It’s a 40 MB download, so it adds right away to your library. However, you’ll need to add a 1 GB update before you get started in the game. Don’t skip past this, as the game won’t start without it. Just let it download and install. Make sure you have the proper room on your hard drive as well.
Now what?
After that, click on the app to get started. You’ll see a couple of options pop up. The first asks if you want to sign up for SpotPass. This enables you to receive updates for the game automatically. It’s optional, but we recommend turning it on. (You can also do this in the download management screen on the home menu if you miss this the first time around.)
The next prompt will ask if you want to post updates to your Miiverse, such as if you get a high score or trump someone else’s. Again, it’s optional, but if you’re social on that service, feel free to sign up.
From there, you’ll have the option to enter the game. You’ll be asked to join a club, which are divided into states. You can join your home team if you prefer, but there are others available, if you come from a different town. The choice, again, is yours.
How long can I play Wii Sports Club on my Wii U?
After that, your initial trial period of 24 hours will begin. This will let you test the bowling and tennis activities free of charge for that time, including online sessions. It’s a great way to get started in the game.
How much do Bowling and Tennis cost in Wii Sports Club?
Once that period passes, you’ll be given the option buy a day pass for $1.99, or unlock each activity for $9.99 apiece. These will pop up on the menu, so don’t worry if you miss them the first time around.
Aside from that, have fun – and see if you can beat our bowling scores. Yeah, good luck with that.
Wii Sports Club is available for download now on the Wii U eShop.
