With digital pinball on the rise between the release of Zen Studios’ Star Wars Pinball and the resurrection of tables of old in The Pinball Arcade, it should be no surprise that there’s even more on the way.
Bobby King, lead designer over at Farsight Studios, has announced that the company is officially bringing its Pinball Arcade franchise to PlayStation 4 when it releases this holiday season. Although specific tables weren’t announced, you can expect to see “rendering tech for per pixel ray casting, area lights/shadows, point lights and screen space ambient occlusion” – so, yeah, it’ll look more realistic. More details should be coming closer to the system’s release.
In the meantime, FarSight is adding more tables to the PS3 and Vita versions of the game. Coming on March 19th will be the Star Trek: The Next Generation set-up, which was officially Kickstarted successfully last year. On the 26th, you’ll also see the release of Table Pack 10, which includes Genie and arcade favorite Attack From Mars. And last but not least, 3D support will be added to the game soon, as it’s currently on test at the Texas Pinball Festival.
If you like flippers, get happy – pinball’s going next gen!
