It’ll take a while to unlock them all, but we’ve already pinpointed some of the best characters in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including a couple of older favorites.

BB-8

Yes, we’re recommending this cute little droid, and for good reason. First, he’s unlocked right at the beginning, in Chapter I: Assault On Jakku, helping out Poe Dameron with his puzzles. Second, he can also kick butt when the situation calls for it.

This is mainly due to his charger, which he can pull out to temporarily stun enemies before delivering a final attack with his ball slam. While it’s not as great as having a blaster or lightsaber, he can hold his own when the situation calls for it.

On top of that, his charge-up speed makes him good to get around with, and his immunity to both cold surfaces and toxic, as well as going through small doors in certain stages, make him accessible in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Oh, and he’s super cute!

Boba Fett

Old school! Boba Fett, the bounty hunter who appeared in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi can be found in the Jakku hub, with a trade-in of some carbonite.

He possesses several abilities, including his blaster and grapple gun, capable of grabbing onto anything with a hook. He can also destroy silver Lego structures, and perform in bounty hunter-based missions. Plus, he can stand in toxic fields without taking damage.

He may be pint sized in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but there’s no question that Boba Fett is awesome.

Darth Maul

“Wait, you’re recommending Darth Maul over Kylo Ren?” you’re probably thinking to yourself. “You’re crazy!” Hang on, because despite the fact that he didn’t last long in The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul is easily one of the most well-rounded characters in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

First up, obviously his double-ended lightsaber means serious business against enemies, but he can also attain Sharpshooter skills for distance attacks, and he can utilize a number of Dark Side Force Powers, including throwing enemies around, that can help clear a room quick. Plus, he has a Force Choke. A Force Choke – in a Lego game!

You can find Darth Maul in the Starkiller Base in the Carbonite hub. We recommend unlocking him and putting him to work – he definitely lives up to the hype.

Han Solo

The question isn’t whether to use Han Solo in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens – it’s about choosing which Han Solo. There are several different types, including the Force Awakens version, the Classic version, the Endor version (which you’ll see in the start of the game), the Starkiller Base version, the Stormtrooper costumed Solo and the Twon Ketee version, complete with grey hair.

No matter who you choose, most of them perform the same, with a laser blaster, grapple gun and being able to use Quadnoculars to target enemies from a distance. Only the Stormtrooper version comes up on the short end, with only the blaster and grapple gun.

Personally, the Twon Ketee or Starkiller versions are your best bet in terms of appearance. If you provide Chewbacca as his back-up, you might even feel like you’re recreating the Force Awakens film. “Chewie, we’re home!”

Rey

Rey is capable of taking down enemies swiftly with the help of her staff, but she also has excellent agility, able to climb onto ledges with ease and quickly wall run to get from platform to platform. Unlock her Resistance version (during the Epilogue of the game) and you’ll also gain access to a lightsaber.

There are different versions of Rey available in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Junction Box, Resistance, Scavenger, Starkiller Base, Takodana, and even a Young version – but no matter who you go with, you’ll have a character who isn’t afraid to back down from a fight.
