New Easter Egg Hints That Next Assassin’s Creed Game Could Be Vikings

It looks like Assassin's Creed fans could be leaving Greece and taking on the role of a Viking.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey brought a lot of firsts to the franchise, including being able to choose a protagonist and the introduction of a dialogue wheel that could alter the course of the game in its entirity. While players are getting down on some of the post-launch DLC, it looks like a newly found Division 2 Easter egg could have just given us a clue as to what the next installment will bring to fans.

Ubisoft is known for their clever Easter eggs and homages to fellow titles under the developer’s umbrella, but sometimes these hidden finds are actually clues for what the studio has coming down the pipeline. One player discovered a new Easter egg having to do with Assassin’s Creed in the newly released Tom Clancy title that reveals a poster of a Norse god holding up an apple of Eden.

Could this be a sign that the next setting could be centered around vikings? It’s absolutely possible! Though many have let their desire for a Samurai setting known, vikings have also come up in conversation quite a bit as well. With Origins taking players to ancient Egypt and Odyssey bringing Greece front and center, the sky really is the limit for where Ubisoft will go next.

Since the last several Assassin’s Creed titles centered around naval combat, a viking scene would match perfectly with the franchise’s evolution. More boats, exciting new islands to explore, and a rich history that lore lovers can have a field day with.

It’s important to note that it’s entirely possible that this was nothing more than a small Easter egg and not indicative of the next title, but Ubi has put clues right in front of us before and this is too pointed to ignore. Hopefully the studio will have something to reveal at this year’s E3, because I don’t know about you — but I’m ready to explore with mead in hand and hopefully a sublimely epic viking beard.
