This PC Classic is Seeing New Life Thanks To The Shadow Wizard Money Gang Meme

Shadow Wizard Money Gang.... We Love Casting Spells.

If you’ve spent even just a moment on the weird side of Twitter (no, not that one) or Tik Tok, you’ve likely come across the Shadow Wizard Money Gang. Going viral on Tik Tok earlier this year, it seems that people can’t get enough of these swaged-out sorcerers, enough so that it seems that a particular PC and PlayStation cult classic is seeing renewed life. After the first bit of fan art arose for this particular band of wizards, an immediate chord rang out in my head, reminding me of a game that I had played years back, and instantly sparked a spell of memories back into my collective consciousness. And it seems I am not alone in this one.

Why Are People Coming Back To Magicka 2 Because Of A Meme?

With the flood of fanart, videos, animations, and everything else under the sun infecting my Twitter page, I became a little more curious as to what this particular meme was all about. I love finding out the backstory to these particular types of things, and this one is just as confusing and bizarre as you could expect.

Working out as a DJ callsign at the beginning of the song GOUT by JOEYY, meme fiends instantly latched onto this one, and I hate to say that SWMG has slowly started infiltrating my life, as well. My wife is ready to divorce me if I respond “Shadow Wizard Money Gang” to something one more time. Beyond their penchant for casting spells, they’re hoping that nuclear bombs get legalized, which is something I don’t jive with as much but I appreciate their diligence in knowing exactly what they want. But, thanks to the plethora of animations and drawings being passed around, I began thinking more about my time spent with the Magicka franchise.

I am rather familiar with the Magicka franchise, and that love started with the sequel. I remember seeing screenshots back in the day, and instantly loving the designs of the characters and the world surrounding me, so much so that I purchased the game the day it became available on my PlayStation 4. And the instant I saw the Shadow Money Wizard Gang meme pop up into my life, I instantly had to jump back in.

Well, first, I Googled to see if anyone has made a mod to give the Red Wizard a gun, but that hasn’t happened yet. Please, someone who is smarter than me, make this happen. We need a proper Shadow Wizard Money Gang mod for this one. However, after this, I instantly rushed back to Steam to redownload a game that I spent far too much time with, ready to relive a bit of happy nostalgia. And this is exactly what I was hoping to see.

I was instantly struck with glee the moment I saw the most helpful reviews. Yeah, sure, maybe you can’t make a Paradox account at the moment to play online with your friends, thanks to an antiquated system that no longer seems to be working, but at least we got the funny haha happening at the moment.

But really, I hope that Paradox Interactive does notice the sudden resurgence of popularity in Magicka, even if it isn’t pushed back into the Top 100, and deploys a patch to fix this for those hoping to relive some happy memories of yesteryear. Magicka 2 is unironically a great game, filled to the brim with a unique sense of style and humor that many games can’t match, and features some incredibly satisfying spellcasting even all these years later. But for now, the meme shall live on for a while longer, and we can only hope that the hungry masses approach this one in droves.

Maybe this is the push that hungry fans need for Magicka 3 to finally happen. It’s hard to know if this is going to have any lasting impact, which I’m sadly doubting due to the nature of memes coming and going nowadays, but I’m at least relishing in the happy memories of a time since gone. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go cast some spells.
