Most Wanted Xbox One Games in 2016

From Quantum Break to Crackdown 3, there's plenty to look forward to on Microsoft's console.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

2015 turned out to be a great year for Microsoft, between Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Halo 5: Guardians, Rare Replay, Forza Motorsport 6 and a handful of other releases. However, things are just getting started for the Xbox One, as many upcoming games should make it even better.

We have a rundown of several games we’re looking forward to on Microsoft’s system in 2016. Prepare your wallet!

Crackdown 3

The first two Crackdown games were all about delivering justice while using a number of super-abilities – and maybe collecting a few power orbs while you were at it. Crackdown 3 looks to escalate the series to greater heights, thanks to the ability to destroy most of the terrain in the city (an easy way to clean up a gun-toting squad) and several new abilities that will expand your crime-fighting skills. Throw in more advanced visuals and plenty of firepower and you have a game worthy of your skills, Agent.

Scalebound

As if Platinum Games wasn’t busy enough with StarFox Zero and Square Enix’s next Nier game, it’s also producing an epic medieval adventure with Scalebound, which should drop sometime late next year. The game features terrific combat, as well as next-gen visuals that make the most from Microsoft’s powerful hardware. On top of that, you have a fellow dragon working by your side, laying siege to anything that stands in your way.

Recore

A game shrouded in mystery since its announcement at E3 earlier this year, Recore should no doubt be a fun sci-fi romp. Produced by the team behind the Metroid Prime games, alongside Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, Recore should offer plenty of unique exploration, as well as inventiveness through the introduction of many robotic cohorts and villains.

Fable Legends

Originally slated to release around the holiday season, Fable Legends has since been delayed by Lionhead Studios, in the hopes of making the free-to-play adventure worth the wait. From what we’ve seen thus far, though, it’s definitely unique, with its various character classes, beautifully designed worlds and its fantastic combat style. There should be more beta invites going out over the spring, leading to an eventual summer/fall 2016 release that will have fans of the series cheering. What’s more, you can play cross-platform between Xbox One and Windows 10, adding more players to the party. We’re down with that.

Gears of War 4

One sequel that has many players excited is Gears 4, the first entry in the series from the newcomer development team at The Coalition. This chapter looks to take a much different approach than previous chapters in the game, introducing a new hero set to go up against a far more visceral batch of Locust Horde enemies. There are still plenty of questions revolving around weapons, multiplayer and most importantly, plot, but we’re likely to get answers leading up to its release in late 2016.

Halo Wars 2

The original Halo Wars did an outstanding job introducing the popular sci-fi series in a whole new format, leaning towards a real-time strategy approach. The sequel, announced a few months back, promises to do the same, but with a much bigger design. Expect large, lavish levels to fight your way through, along with a number of complex battle parties to go up against, and new strategies to use to your best advantage. This should no doubt be a big hit, especially for those who loved the first game.

Rocket League

Already an established hit on PlayStation 4 and PC, Rocket League will soon bring its ball-bopping goodness to the Xbox One – and the timing couldn’t be better. Considering the avid fanbase that spends hours at a time dominating opponents on Xbox Live, Rocket League could easily be a huge hit for the platform, with its exclusive Xbox-related vehicles (from Gears of War and Halo) and wildly addictive gameplay. There’s no question this will be a big addition to the ever-growing Xbox library – and another win for the developers at Psyonix.

Quantum Break

Last but definitely not least, it’s been a while since we’ve seen Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne and Alan Wake, in action. However, with Quantum Break, the developer explains that it’s all about time. You’ll use a number of time-stopping abilities as you attempt to unfold a dangerous conspiracy in the near future, fighting to stay alive as long as you can. With elaborate design that brings this harrowing new world to life, along with a storyline that also involves the creation of a live-action TV series (featuring X-Men star Shawn Ashmore), Quantum Break could be one of 2016’s biggest games.
