Is DMC: Devil May Cry Remastered Edition Worth the Money?

by Prima Games Staff

Although this generation of consoles will introduce new franchises to the table, publishers will also bring back old favorites. Between Microsoft’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Square Enix’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, and Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5, a number of past favorites are new again, with plenty of exciting tweaks and additions.

Not to be outdone is Capcom, who launches Resident Evil HD next week, and coming this March, the return of Dante’s latest adventure, DMC: Devil May Cry. This action-packed tour-de-force rocked our world when it first debuted on PS3 and Xbox 360, thanks to the development team at Ninja Theory. However, on the new systems it’s going to be even better.

Improved gameplay with some new tricks

If you played the original DMC: Devil May Cry, then you already know about the outstanding touches Ninja Theory added to the gameplay, with plenty of hack-and-slash/shoot-em-up action. With the Remastered Edition, players will be able to experience a number of tweaks and balance changes that will make it easier to chain together killer combos, no matter the weapon.

On top of that, the developer added a number of new touches to improve the gameplay. With the Manual Target Lock, players will be able to pick and choose their enemies as they strike these foes, rather than having to automatically hit whoever’s nearby. This should open up a number of cool opportunities.

Other popular moves will also be enhanced, including an improved Demon Evade to avoid getting hit, a triple dash that enables Dante to cross larger gaps much easier and other community-based suggestions. These will all be applied through mods the player can activate at any time.

Plenty of modes

Along with the main story mode and the inclusion of additional downloadable content (including Vergil’s Downfall), DMC: Devil May Cry Remastered Edition will also come with a number of modes.

Turbo Mode will speed up the game an additional 20 percent, a real challenge for those who think they have Dante’s combo attacks dialed in. This should no doubt please players looking to blast through the game on a speed run.

In addition, the Hardcore Mode should put your hack-and-slash skills to the ultimate test. You’ll have to work hard on your combat in order to avoid losing your rank, and you won’t be able to conveniently knock enemies into the air with Devil Trigger. Furthermore, parrying is tougher in this mode, and enemies can do greater damage.

Must Style Mode is a new feature that forces players to showcase their combination skills, as the only way you’ll be able to hurt enemies is if you achieve S rank. To do that, you have to continue performing stylish moves.

Finally, Gods Must Die mode is the ultimate challenge, as enemies are stronger and faster than ever. You get Devil Trigger back, but you’ll have to fight without items or health drops, as neither can be used.

DLC and bonus content

On top of the main story mode (and the many modes we just listed), DMC: Devil May Cry will also come with all the included downloadable content from the original game, including Vergil’s Downfall campaign. On top of that, a series of new skins will be available, including alternate looks for Dante and Vergil, as well as new weapon types and the item finder.

Those who got a kick out of the Bloody Palace will enjoy its return, along with a new modified set of challenges featuring Dante’s brother Vergil in action. Players will tackle 60 new levels of enemies that must be defeated, exclusively with the secondary character.

Spectacular graphics

Finally, the game will feature enhanced resolution for PS4 and Xbox One, with the action running at a smooth 60 frames per second in full 1080p. Cinematics and character designs will also receive an upgrade.

DMC: Devil May Cry Remastered Edition will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17th, 2015.
