Now that Disney Infinity 3.0 is available, players can once again watch their toys come to life. Whether you want to beat story missions or create your own worlds in the Toy Box, there’s plenty to do.
The Starter Pack, which can be purchased now at retailers everywhere, comes with the Twilight of the Republic playset, as well as two selectable characters – Ahsoka and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (before he became Darth Vader). However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as new playsets will debut in the months ahead, expanding the Disney universe with more single player content, as well as additions to the Toy Box.
Here’s a glimpse of the new interactive playsets debuting soon. Note: they are sold separately, for around $35 or so, depending on what’s included.
Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire
Whereas the Twilight of the Republic set focuses on the newer, Rise Against the Empire concentrates on the original trilogy, including A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The initial playset comes with a Death Star figurine to unlock the world, along with two characters – Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. In addition, others are available for purchase, including Darth Vader, Han Solo and Chewbacca, among others.
This playset features events based on the classic films, including the initial Death Star encounter (when the Millennium Falcon gets pulled in via tractor beam), a full-blown battle on Hoth (complete with AT-ATs), and yes, the Endor battle that concludes Return of the Jedi. If you’re an old-school fan of the series, this set and its figures are a must. It will release on September 29. Additionally, you’ll be able to purchase a Boba Fett figure to use in the game!
Disney Pixar’s Inside Out
Based on the blockbuster animated film of the same name, the Inside Out playset takes place entirely within the mind of a young girl named Riley. The five emotions in charge – Joy, Anger, Disgust, Sadness and Fear – must work together to overcome challenging situations while keeping Riley in check.
This playset differs from the Star Wars universe, but has something special to offer fans of the film. Joy and Anger come with the initial playset, and Fear, Disgust and Sadness are available separately for purchase. The set is available now.
Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron
Very little is known about this set. Disney hasn’t released an official trailer for it, but it’s likely to arrive sometime in early October, alongside the home video release of the hit sequel.
Events from the film are likely to appear, including a full-blown battle with the Hulk in the middle of a city (complete with Tony Stark’s modified Hulkbuster, which is a playable figure) and the final encounter with Ultron, as he attempts to raise a small city from the ground. Obviously, the game’s events will be modified for the Disney universe, with just the right amount of charm to appeal to both hardcore comic book fans and kids.
In addition, this set should also be compatible with a number of Avengers figures from Disney Infinity 2.0, so avid players can go ahead and use their leveled-up characters right away to battle the automated juggernaut. We’ll have more details on this set in the weeks ahead.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Speaking of mysterious playsets, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the most secretive of all, in an effort to avoid spoilers for the forthcoming film when it arrives this December.
The playset, which should arrive around the same time as the film, if not before, will include two playable characters – Finn and Rey. Second, other characters from the Star Wars universe will be playable with the game, including legendary ones like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. We’re not sure to what extent, but since those characters play a pivotal role in the story, they’ll be able to get involved.
No word yet on what other figures will be produced with the set (crossing our fingers for Kylo Ren), but we’ll know more in the weeks ahead.
