This Friday, July 4th, host nation Brazil will take on Colombia in a World Cup 2014 quarterfinal knockout game.  The winner will be one win away from the World Cup Final.  Brazil narrowly escaped devastation in its last game, as the club edged Chile in a electrifying penalty shootout.  Colombia had an easier time sending home Uruguay, who missed Luis Suarez due to a suspension for biting Italian defenseman Giorgio Chiellini.

Colombia’s James Rodriguez has been the tournament’s most valuable player thus far, notching three goals and two assists. The face of Brazil, Neymar, has also played well and is currently tied for the tournament lead for goals scored with four.  Neymar has been banged up with leg injuries, but claims he will be fit for Friday’s match.

Prima Games ran a simulation match using EA Sports FIFA World Cup 14, with the expected lineups for Friday’s game.  Needless to say, there was electrifying action from the get-go, with plenty of chances for both sides.  Early in the 12th minute, the back line of Colombia gets caught sleeping, as Neymar makes his run and receives a beautiful touch pass from Fernandinho, then finishes with authority to break the scoreless tie.  Just six minutes later, Brazil’s Luis Gustavo is led into the box and Colombia goalkeeper David Opsina makes a miraculous fingertip save to keep the deficit at one goal.

Refusing to be outdone, Brazil goalie Julio Cesar makes a full extension save on a crossing effort in the 28th minute to preserve the 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes after the half, Colombia puts the pressure on with a dazzling build up series that eventually falls to the foot of Juan Cuadrado for a tap-in equalizing goal.

Here is where things get interesting.  In the 69th minute, Brazil’s Oscar comes in late on Ramos from Colombia in what appears to be a clear foul.  The referee says play on, and Brazil’s David Luiz sends a long ball flying over midfield to the waiting chest of Fred.  Fred takes position and wins the ball, leaving only the goalie to beat.  Fred finishes it with ease and gives Brazil a 2-1 lead.  Take a look at the slow motion video of the tackle that lead to the breakaway. See the foul?

Already up a goal, Ramires makes a run that slices right through the heart of the Colombian defense, and is met by a beautiful through ball from Fred who delivers the finish, icing the game and sending Brazil through to the semifinals.  Final score, 3-1 Brazil over Colombia.
