Today is a huge day for those that love space and all of its mysteries. We’ve gotten our first official look at a Black Hole 55 million light years away and it is marvelous. As a huge science “geek” myself, I’ve been spending far more time than I should be looking at the new image and in my procrastinating … I mean perusing … I couldn’t help but to appreciate my fellow gamers and their hilarious reactions to the big reveal.
A little bit of Super Mario, a little bit of Mass Effect, here are just a few of my favorite reactions from fellow gamers regarding the Black Hole image:

Today, the first ever photograph of a black hole was released to the astrophysical community (right). While the depiction of a black hole made in Super Mario Galaxy (left) 12 years ago does not entirely match up with the real black hole, the similarity is nevertheless remarkable. pic.twitter.com/WBxtdve8u5

There are so many more but if this gives me an excuse to talk science, Legend of Zelda, and Mass Effect? You bet your sweet little Turian booty I’m going to take it!
As for the incredible revelation, the science community is teeming with excitement. “We have taken the first picture of a black hole,” said EHT project director Sheperd S. Doeleman of the Center for Astrophysics. “This is an extraordinary scientific feat accomplished by a team of more than 200 researchers.”
The entire image, though at first glance simple, is bursting with discovery. To learn more about the Black Hole that has birthed a thousand memes, you can read all about it here!
