Best Xbox One Games of 2018

Find out what Xbox One games people are most looking forward to in the New Year.
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

As we head into the New Year, Xbox One owners have got to be wondering about some of the best games to look forward to in 2018. There are quite a few Xbox One console exclusive games that have been in development for quite some time and will finally be making their way to retail shelves in 2018. Some games were even scheduled to release in 2017, but were pushed back to ensure the final product was as polished as possible. So let’s take a quick look at some Xbox One game releases in 2018.

Crackdown 3

Arguably the biggest Xbox One console exclusive for 2018 is Crackdown 3. This long-awaited entry in the series was originally going to release in late 2017, but was pushed back to ensure the scope of the game could be completed with a high level of quality. Offering a lot of backend cloud gaming to power the mass amounts of destruction on display in Crackdown 3, it should be well worth the wait when it finally releases in 2018.

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is scheduled to release on March 20, 2018 after numerous technical alpha periods where a handful of players got to take an early build of the game for a spin. It’s been awhile since we had a new Rare title, especially a brand new IP, but Sea of Thieves looks to return the developer to its former glory. As an MMO shooter that takes place on the high seas, players take on the role of a pirate and band together to plunder and pillage. It’s a concept that isn’t often found in gaming, but 2018 seems to be the year of the pirate as Ubisoft has a similar title, Skull and Bones, also set for release sometime in 2018.

State of Decay 2

It’s been nearly five years since the release of the original State of Decay on the Xbox 360. The Microsoft Studios published title will finally get a sequel sometime in 2018. For those unfamiliar, State of Decay 2 is a zombie survival game (those seem to be all the rage lately) that feels a bit like an action-packed take on The Last of Us, or perhaps a more serious version of Dead Rising. It’s a third-person shooter with squad elements and even a base of operations to call home while hundreds of zombies come at your team in seemingly endless waves.

The Last Night

Anyone watching the Microsoft E3 2017 press conference should remember The Last Night. It has a super unique visual style, almost like an 8-bit Blade Runner. The visual style alone has a lot of people excited for the 2018 release of The Last Night, but it also offers gameplay that isn’t seen as much in modern gaming. It’s a 2.5D cinematic platform title, where the player takes control of a lower-class citizen known as Charlie. Again, if you’re seen Blade Runner, or understand the Blade Runner universe, this game feels very similar to that and should be one of the more unique game releases of 2018.
