Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a magical escape for many while COVID-19 continues to spread and more and more people are forced into isolation. I, myself, have dived right in with New Horizons as my first game played in this franchise and have been loving all of the meaningful ways players can interact together, as well as the peace and quiet of solitude and island life. For one couple, however, this game saved a wedding – at least temporarily, which is honestly the feel-good stories we need right now.
The latest batch of wholesome goodness come from 9Gag user ‘Ashmush‘. According to them, the continued spread of COVID-19 and the imposed quarantines caused the couple to cancel their nuptials. According to Ashmush, her fiance planned out an entire in-game wedding ceremony within the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons right on the beachside alongside close friends!
“My fiance planned it out with our best friends, I’m graduating from med school and not getting graduation and our wedding was cancelled,” said the 9Gag user. “I was feeling pretty down about missing out on my milestones.” She added, “This made me so happy, I don’t even have the words to describe how much it meant to me.”
This isn’t the first time a grand gesture was made in gaming, but each time it happens it’s incredible. Games, especially right now, are often a source of sanity. Whether a much-needed escape from reality is calling, or just a few moments of enjoying something new, video games offer an outlet that truly impacts daily life in a meaningful way.
While obviously this isn’t the same as an actual wedding, we’re so happy to see such a sweet gesture being made and we wish the happy couple all of the love and happiness when their IRL ceremony kicks off.
Weddings aside, players can begin making their own Animal Crossing: New Horizons memories because the game is available now on Nintendo Switch. Be sure to also check out our sweet Game Hub here for all of the tips and tricks you could possibly want regarding the latest title from the Big N.
