RED ZONE DEFENSE
Formation: Nickel 3-3-5 Wide
Cover 4 Show 2
Zan’s Notes
It is important to remember the QB Spy. Most players struggle to pass in the red zone due to the tight passing windows. Cover 4 is tough to run on because both safeties are in the run fit and will respond quickly to run plays. Essentially, you have a defense that covers the field with 7 zones, but you have 8 players (3 linemen, 3 LBs and 2 safeties) involved in the run fit. Now you have a dedicated QB spy, which will make running, passing, or scrambling all very difficult. You should force a lot of FG attempts with this defense.
