PLAY SETUP AND READS
3-4 Over
Formation's Used
- Sting Pinch Zone
- Sting Pinch
- Cover 4
- Cover 2
- 2 Man Under
Sting Pinch Zone
- 1. Pinch defensive line
- 2. Drop both DE's into hook zones/QB Spies
-
Perfect for 3rd and long situations. A key adjustment we like to make to this play is to drop a MLB into a deep zone. This will create a Cover 5 Zone blanketing the deep part of the field.
Sting Pinch
- 1. Pinch defensive line
- 2. Hot route the DT to blitz
- 3. User control MLB in hook zone
-
Meet Sting Pinch Zones twin counterpart. Only they are fraternal twins not identical. This play is just as effective only has man to man coverage.
Cover 4
- 1. Motion the right HB left
- 2. Snap once he sets
-
This is the closest thing to an off tackle from this formation. Use this play to pound the rock and dictate a true rushing attack.
Cover 2
- 1. Pinch defensive line
- 2. Drop both DE’s into hook zones/QB Spies
-
One of our favorite plays in the redzone. This play has defenders covering the entire short part of the field. It is also one of a few plays that has stock buzz zones!
2 Man Under
- 1. Pinch defensive line
- 2. Drop both DE’s into hook zones/QB Spies
-
The ultimate coverage defense can be called from this play. Its always a safe bet to use this setup.
Nickel 2-4-5 DT
Formation's Used
- 2 Man Under
- Cover 2 Sink
- Cross Fire 3 Seam
- Overload 1 Roll
- Overload 3 Seam
- Cover 4
2 Man Under
- 1. Show blitz
- 2. Global blitz LB's
- 3. Hot route interior defensive linemen to a QB Spy (opposite side of pressure)
- 4. Hot route MLB to whatever zone works best for the situation
- 5. Hot route SS to whatever zone works best for the situation
- 6. Setups will be flipped when bringing pressure off opposite edge
- 7. Blitz the interior defensive linemen for a more consistent blitz
-
You will need to man up a blitzing defender on a WR as the global blitz will take this player out of his man to man assignment. Outside of this adjustment expect to slow down your opponent with this play.
Cover 2 Sink
- 1. Show blitz
- 2. Global blitz LB's
- 3. Hot route interior defensive linemen to a QB Spy (opposite side of pressure)
- 4. Hot route MLB to whatever zone works best for the situation
- 5. Setups will be flipped when bringing pressure off opposite edge
- 6. Blitz the interior defensive linemen for a more consistent blitz
-
When running this play make sure not to hot route the SS in the right gap to blitz. He needs to remain in his deep zone assignment. This is a great play call for 3rd and short situations.
Cross Fire 3 Seam
- 1. Show blitz
-
This play brings heavy pressure and is the staple of our defense. You will need to make adjustments based on what your opponent is doing.
Overload 1 Roll
- 1. Show blitz
-
This play will bring two defenders free off the left edge and is great for opponents that max protect. This is one of our favorite blitzes in the game. We will be in man to man defense so make sure if you see a uncovered WR that you man him up with one of our extra defenders.
Overload 3 Seam
- 1. Show blitz
-
This play compliments Overload 1 Roll as it is a zone blitz. Use this to confuse your opponent up and send max pressure.
Cover 4
- 1. Show blitz
-
When running this play make sure not to hot route the SS to blitz. He needs to remain in his deep assignment. Look to call this play in 3rd and long situations.
Nickel Psycho
Formation's Used
- 2 Man Under
- Cover 3
- Cover 4
2 Man Under
- 1. Global blitz or global zone all linebackers
- 2. User control the deep safety
-
We are looking to bring max pressure or play max coverage defense with all the plays from Nickel Psycho. 2 Man Under is great for 3rd and long situations. Let your opponent complete anything underneath.
Cover 3
- 1. Global blitz or global zone all linebackers
- 2. User control the deep safety
-
This is our main play from the Nickel Psycho as the zones are very similar to the 3-4 Over Sting Pinch Zone. User control the FS and look to jump routes over the middle of the field.
Cover 4
- 1. Global blitz or global zone all linebackers
- 2. Drop the extra defender over the deep middle to create a cover 5
- 3. User control the deep safety
-
Use this in combination with 2 Man Under. I like to create a cover 5 defensive shell that blankets the deep part of the field.
Sub 2-3-6
Formation's Used
- Spinner
- Cross 3 Fire
Spinner
- 1. Press
- 2. User control the blitzing slot CB that is on the HB’s side
- 3. Stay in position at the snap of the ball with the CB
-
By staying in place at the snap of the ball you will hold the blocking HB. If the HB goes out on a route you must follow him and play coverage.
Cross 3 Fire
- 1. Press
- 2. Hot route both slot CB’s to blitz
- 3. User control the blitzing slot CB that is on the HB’s side
- 4. Stay in position at the snap of the ball with the CB
-
This is our zone compliment to Spinner. We use this to confuse our opponent. Overall it has better coverage then Spinner. Watch for the flats to be attacked and if so consider switching back to Spinner.
Goaline 6-3-2 & 5-3-3
Formation's Used
- GL Zone
- GL Man
- 3 Deep Under
GL Zone
- 1. Shift defensive line left
- 2. Hot route the left of screen DE to blitz
- 3. Hot route the right of screen DE (inbetween DE and DT) to blitz
-
This play does a great job at sending two pass rushers free after the QB. It also has great coverage for redzone situations.
GL Man
- 1. Shift defensive line left
- 2. Hot route the left of screen DE to blitz
- 3. Hot route the right of screen DE (inbetween DE and DT) to blitz
-
This is the man compliment to the GL Zone. Only use this as a change of pace as the coverage is extremely weak for the redzone.
3 Deep Under
- 1. Spread the defensive line
- 2. Crash the defensive line left/right
- 3. Spread Linebackers
- 4. Hot route left/right side linebacker to blitz
- 5. Hot route interior DT’s to QB Spies
- 6. Hot route opposite side DE to a buzz zone
-
Pressure will be disguised with this setup. Look to call this throughout the game and see if your opponent can handle the heat from this formation!
