PLAY SETUP AND READS
FULLHOUSE
Formation's Used
- FB Slam
- HB Draw
- HB Smash
- HB Sweep
- PA Middle
- WR DBL Shake
- Curls
FB Slam
- 1. Motion the left HB right
- 2. Snap once he reaches the right A gap
-
This is the most consistent run in Madden NFL 13. Look for it to be your bread and butter in short yardage situations. Mix up your play calling between the slam and draw.
HB Draw
- 1. Motion the left HB right
- 2. Snap once he reaches the right A gap
-
We only recommend this play when your opponent is playing coverage defense. With the new Infinity Engine this year draws run out of space quickly.
HB Smash
- 1. Motion the right HB left
- 2. Snap once he sets
-
This is the closest thing to an off tackle from this formation. Use this play to pound the rock and dictate a true rushing attack.
HB Sweep
- 1. Motion the left HB right
- 2. Snap once he sets
-
This can be hit or miss. If your blockers miss their assignments expect a loss of yards. If they hold their blocks you could be sprung free for a big gain.
PA Middle
- 1. Hot route the deep HB to block & release
- 2. Hot route both WR's to drags
-
This is primarily a man to man beating play. Look for a switch in defenders and target the HB’s towards the flat.
WR DBL Shake
- 1. Snap as quick as possible
-
Our favorite play in the game. Target the left HB as he breaks out of the backfield. We also love targeting the HB on the block & release route. This can be done by blocking both HB’s and waiting for the deep HB to release.
Curls
- 1. Motion the right HB left
- 2. Snap once he sets
-
A great way to attack your opponent over the middle of the field is with curls. The angle of the motioned routes will sit directly over the middle of the field. Use this against opponents that user control their MLB.
Strong Tight Pair
Formation's Used
- HB Slash WK
- Drive
HB Slash WK
- 1. Playmaker the run right
- 2. Snap
-
This is one of the most consistent runs in the game. You will get great double teams on the right of the offensive line. It’s a great way to start a game to see if your opponent can handle this running formation.
Drive
- 1. Hot route the inside TE to a fade
- 2. Hot route the outside TE to a drag
-
This play compliments the HB Slash WK as its difficult to defend in the right flat. Look to use this play when your opponent sells out to stop the run.
I Form Tight
Formation's Used
- Iso
- Power O
- PA Power O
Iso
- 1. Motion the far right WR
- 2. Snap once he reaches the right A gap
-
Follow your lead blocker through the A gap. Fight temptation to kick this run outside.
Power O
- 1. Motion the far right WR
- 2. Snap once he reaches the first TE
-
Follow your lead blockers and don’t out run them. Lay off turbo and follow them off tackle.
PA Power O
- 1. Hot route the HB to a block & release
- 2. Motion the far right WR
- 3. Snap once he takes one step
-
The motioned WR will be unbumpable so we know we will have a nice target downfield to user catch. Look to the FB in the flat as your first option and then to the TE’s on their crossing patterns.
Singleback Bunch
Formation's Used
- HB Dive
- HB Draw
- Y Trail
- PA Draw Pass
- Seattle
HB Dive
- 1. Motion the far right WR left
- 2. Snap once he reaches the right A gap
-
If you are looking for a consistent run from this formation this is it. The blocking from the bunch side of the formation will open up running lanes to the right. Kick it out wide if you think there is space.
HB Draw
- 1. Motion the far right WR left
- 2. Snap once he reaches the right A gap
-
If your opponent is playing coverage defense look to call this play. Try and follow the bunch side of the formation as you cut the run upfield.
Y Trail
- 1. Hot route the far left WR to a streak
-
First look to the angled route in the flat. If the defense is zone blitzing this is a great option. Then look to him as he breaks over the middle of the field as your second option. The deep slant over the middle of the field is great against all coverages but takes time to develop. The far right WR gets inside position against 2 Man Under so this is a nice user catch option
PA Draw Pass
- 1. Hot route the HB to a block & release
- 2. Hot route the far left WR to a streak
-
When we look to user catch downfield we call this play. We will have seven blockers for us as we target our options downfield.
Seattle
- 1. Hot route the far left WR to a drag
-
This play does a nice job at attacking zone coverage. First look to the drag underneath and then towards the wheel route on the sideline. The deep post is a killer downfield option against aggressive defenses.

FK WR SCRN Wheel

Formation's Used
- HB Draw
- Curl Flats
- Post Flags
- PA Comebacks
- Deep Attack
HB Draw
- 1. Snap (run against coverage defense)
-
Count the number of defenders in the box. If you see 5 or less call this play. If you see 6 or more do not call this play.
Curl Flats
- 1. Snap (base play)
-
The best play in the game. Why? It can’t be stopped when you make the right read. Against man-to-man coverage look to the curls before they break back towards the QB. The angle route by the HB is great for attacking aggressive defenses.
Post Flags
- 1. Hot route both slot WR's to drags
-
This play is great for Cover 1 man to man defenses that you will face all season long. It crushes them downfield and will take them out of this coverage.
PA Comebacks
- 1. Hot route the HB to block & release
- 2. Hot route the right slot WR to a drag
-
This play gives us a deep option over the middle of the field and two outside comeback routes that will frustrate your opponent all game long. Checkdown to the drag route if your reads are covered.
Deep Attack
- 1. Hot route the left slot WR to a drag
- 2. Motion the HB right
- 3. Hold the left stick towards the left
- 4. Once he begins to come back towards the backfield, snap the ball
-
This is a great “change of pace” play as the motion will scare your opponent. Complete this once and then every time you motion the HB they will be thinking that this is coming their way. Then you hit them with Curl Flats!
