In case you haven’t heard – or you’re still dwelling on the fact that Sony is working on PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale – today Sony Santa Monica announced that the latest God of War game, the recently announced Ascension, will include an all new feature that marks a first for the series: multiplayer.
Now before you go thinking that several Kratoses (is that a word?) storm the battlefield and kill everything in sight, the game instead puts you in the role of other warriors as you fight your way through various maps, killing enemies, activating switches and setting the stage for an epic slaughtering of a large enemy that looms in the distance. It’s a tricky setting, and one that required major tweaking of the existing God of War engine, but consider us intrigued.
You can find more details about the multiplayer and what it has to offer in our upcoming preview, and expect more information around E3, when Sony is bound to go gangbusters with this one. It looks huge, even if we’re not getting it until early 2013…
