Pokemon GO is full of unique mechanics and interesting strategies, but one move might transcend all others. And that’s Weather Ball. This is a move that’s befuddled many a trainer, but I’m here to tell you how to get and use Weather Ball in Pokemon GO.
How to Get and Use Weather Ball in Pokemon Go
First things first, Weather Ball is an attack that is inherently Normal-type. And it will stay Normal Type unless the weather conditions in Pokemon Go change to certain types.
There are 5 potential elements Weather Ball can be. They are:
- Fire – Sunny
- Ice – Snow
- Rock – Partly cloudy
- Water – Rain
- Normal – Everything else
Weather Ball can also only be used by a certain array of Pokemon, each of which are elemental and tied tightly to those elements. The only one you might think is strange is Grass-Type Pokemon, who receives Fire Weather Ball, because it benefits from Sunny weather. Look, I don’t make the rules. It should obviously get Water Weather Ball. But anyway…
What makes Weather Ball so unique is that if it’s put on certain elemental Pokemon, it can convert to that element. Which means you’re likely to encounter it on a vast array of Pokemon. Here are the Pokemon who can use it:
- Vulpix (Standard) – Fire
- Ninetales (Standard) – Fire
- Vulpix (Alolan) – Ice
- Ninetales (Alolan) – Ice
- Castform (All forms) – Fire, Ice, Water, Normal
- Politoed – Water
- Pelipper—Water
- Cherrim – Fire
- Hippowdon — Fire
- Abomasnow – Ice
- Amaura – Ice
- Aurorus – Ice
- Rosearade – Fire

Weather Ball is a move that’s incredibly fast charging for a Charge Attack, which is one of the reasons why it was an aggressive part of the meta in 2021. It does a total of 55 damage (66 with STAB, 79.2 with Weather and STAB) and takes 35 energy to charge.
But how do you get it on your Pokemon? The answer is sheer dumb luck. You’ll need to take a Charged TM to a Pokemon that can learn Weather Ball and keep using it until that Pokemon learns it. It’s completely random, so you can cycle through a lot of TMs and still not get it.
As for what Pokemon is the absolute best with Weather Ball, let me suggest Roserade. It has the highest DPS of all the potential Weather Ball users, topping the charts.
