Larvitar is Pokemon that has managed to elude many trainers, though it’s not impossible to find. Periodically, you might find it as 1-Star Raid boss or in 5 km eggs. You can even find it in the overworld wandering around, waiting to be clicked. It has a slightly higher spawning rate in Mountain Biomes, where Pokemon like Nidoran, Clefairy, and Shuckle are more common, but stumbling across a Larvitar this way is unlikely.

Fortunately, there’s a solution to all your Pokedex-filling needs. Larvitar will be featuring in its own Community Day!

Everything You Need to Know about Larvitar’s Community Day in Pokemon GO

On January 21, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time, Larvitar the Rock Skin Pokemon will spawn at significantly higher rates. And if you’re lucky, you might even be able to encounter a Shiny Larvitar in Pokemon GO during this date.

The spawn rate of shiny Pokemon is usually 1 in 500, but Community Days increase the Shiny Spawn rate of the spotlight Pokemon by an unknown percentage. This, coupled with how plentiful Larvitar will be during this 3-hour window, will give you your best chance of getting a Shiny Larvitar.

But don’t just Shiny Hunt. You’ll also want to evolve the Larvitar you catch during this event into Tyranitar, Larvitar’s last stage. If you’re able to do so in the allotted timeframe (2 PM to 7:00 PM on January 21), your Tyranitar will learn the Fast Attack Smack Down.

There will also be a Community Day Special Research Story available as well. This Research Story will be purchasable in the in-game shop for $1 USD. While the rewards for participating and completing this Special Research Story haven’t been revealed, based on previous Community Day Stories, it’s likely the rewards will consist of valuable items, EXP, and Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar, respectively.
