How to Unlock 6 Star Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Even the crystal looks ominous

The Pokemon Company may have outdone itself with the amount of challenges Pokemon Scarlet and Violet throw at you. Not only are there three story lines you must see to their end to fully unlock their credits, but there are ample chances to test your Pokemon’s mettle.

One of the best ways to do this is Tera Raiding. Optional fights that occur when you interact with crystalline structures that are scattered throughout the Paldean Region. These Tera Raids range from the fairly easy 1 to 2 star, to the brutally hard.

Even trainers who’ve beaten the game will probably struggle in 5 or 6 star raids if the Pokemon aren’t the right tera type or aren’t packing the right moves. But how do you even unlock 6 star tera raids?

How to Unlock 6 Star Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The process to unlocking 6 Star Tera Raids is fairly straightforward. They’re very much a post-game activity, and so you’ll need to complete the Gym Challenge by conquering all 8 Gyms, finishing the Elite 4 Assessment, and then defeating the Top Champion, Geeta, herself.

But this alone isn’t enough. You’ll then need to trigger and complete the Academy Ace Tournament. The conditions to start this post-game quest are only available if you’ve finished Victory Road, Starfall Street, and Path of Legends, then finished the quest within The Great Crater of Paldea.

Once that’s done, head back to school to speak to Geeta, who will send you out to the Gyms to test the Gym Leaders. Yes, you’ll need to fight all 8 Gyms again. Complete this challenge and return to school, where you’ll then have to beat four “random” trainers in the Academy Ace Tournament.

Win this tournament and Jacq will then call you to discuss Black Tera Raid Crystals. But these won’t start appearing in the overworld yet. You’ll need to defeat 10 4 to 5 Star Tera Raids first. You can do this alone or you can do it in co-op, it has no effect on the count.

Once you’ve defeated 10, you’ll get another call from Jacq telling you not to approach the Black Tera Raid Crystals. But they appear on your overworld map… So what’s stopping you?

Still, it’s important to note that these are extremely difficult raids. The Pokemon within is level 90, so your Pokemon should be at least level 100 to not be a detriment to your team.

Good luck unlocking those raids, trainer!
