Warhammer 40K: Darktide has some very obscure weapon stat names on its weapons, and this rings especially true for the more unique weapons in the game. Some stats like Damage, Cleave Targets, and Cleave Damage are easy enough to comprehend, but something like Rending makes no sense at first glance. For a particular group of weapons, there’s a stat that is confusing no matter how you look at it. Here’s what the Shredder stat is in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
What Does Shredder Mean in Darktide?
You will have first noticed the Shredder stat on weapons that include a chainsaw of some form. This encompasses any variants of the Chainsword, Eviscerator, or Chainaxe. It likely appears alongside some stats like Penetration, Finesse, Mobility, so on and so forth. While this may seem like a daunting stat, it’s surprisingly simple.
Shredder refers to the damage done by the special action of these weapons. If you weren’t already aware for one reason or another, the special action on Chainswords, Chainaxes, and Eviscerators will rev up the weapon, causing the next attack to saw through an enemy for a second and deal massive damage. The higher this stat is, the more that revved-up attack will do.
Alongside this stat though, there’s another way to increase the damage of your revved-up attack (sort of). When going in for the slash, doing a heavy attack will actually inflict severely more damage than if you were to inflict just a light attack. Through testing with a Chainsword of our own, the difference between light and heavy revved-up attacks was between 700 and 1100 damage.

Finding a chainsaw-based weapon with a high Shredder stat isn’t a tried and true way to know that it’s good, but you can be sure its revved-up attacks will deal some insane damage. Plus, who doesn’t want a chainsaw weapon of some kind in a video game?
