Warhammer 40K: Darktide doesn’t shy away from the nastier parts of 40K lore. Sure, you might have the relatively tame Moebian Sixth soldiers, but how can you forget Mutants and Poxbursters charging at you and your squad ready to inflict maximum plague? That’s not even including another towering monstrosity, one that some players tend to have some trouble with. Here’s how to defeat the Beast of Nurgle in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
How to Kill the Beast of Nurgle in Darktide
Being one of the most difficult enemies in Darktide, if not the most difficult, adds reason to why so many fall to this beast. It may seem slow and unthreatening at first, but an unprepared squad is bound to run into serious trouble taking it down. Its attacks are fairly simple to understand. It moves towards a member of your squad, consistently spewing out toxic sludge which doesn’t cause damage, but heavily slows players letting it close distance. Once it gets close enough, it will either attempt to swing at a player or, much worse, consume them. This thankfully doesn’t cause an instant kill, and instead increases the player’s corruption before spitting it out. Its final attack is a tail slam, which happens if a player is behind it.
So how do you take a Beast of Nurgle down? Well, the first and most obvious tip is teamwork. Having your allies know what you plan to do and how to react is important due to one major factor: the glowing pustule on its back. This is its crit spot, instead of its face, and should be the focus of players while it chases after one teammate. The player that draws aggro will ideally be either an Ogryn or a Zealot due to their extra survivability, whilst any Psykers or Veterans unload on the pustule and do as much damage as possible.
If you’re the player in charge of keeping its attention, you should try and circle the beast around a large area whenever possible. When it goes to spit its toxic sludge (which is easily telegraphed), side-stepping can help you avoid it. In the event you find yourself caught, you have a few options. If you’re a Zealot, saving your charge to gain some distance can be a major help in avoiding its consume attack. Ogryn players, on the other hand, should either charge away to get out of its range or charge at the beast to stagger it. The latter is especially useful if it decides to focus on one of your DPS characters.

That’s all there is to it. Keep your distance, force it to slowly crawl and waste time, and ensure your teamwork is as strong as possible. With a little perseverance, you should be able to end this beast’s suffering. Just be sure to stand back when you kill it, as its explosion does more damage than you’d think.
