How to Get Thunder Wave in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

After completing the introduction section of the game and joining Nemona at the top of the lighthouse, you’ll be set free for the first time. Once you’re able to explore all of Area One and roam around to your heart’s content, you’ll be able to find Thunder Wave.

As you make your way toward Mesagoza, you’ll see trainers who want to battle. Make sure you fight at least four of them. It doesn’t matter which four, but you need to have defeated at least four trainers in Area One.

Once you’ve completed this, head to the Pokemon Center that is right next to the door to Mesagoza City, you’ll notice a man in a suit standing around with a yellow text bubble above his head.

Speak with him, and he tells you that he will reward you if you defeat four trainers in Area One. If you’ve already defeated the trainers, or come back and speak to him afterward, he will give you the Thunder Wave TM.

Thunder Wave is an excellent move to cause your enemy to become paralyzed. This can be key in helping Pokemon with lower speed get the first strike. If you have an electric Pokemon that doesn’t know Thunder Wave yet, you’ll want to pick this up for sure.
