Apex Legends has received a new update, and a percentage of players are reporting that their Apex Legends client is stuck on Patching Files, making them unable to finish patching Apex Legends successfully. We have noticed that this is happening on PC, on both Steam and Origin, so we will cover both platforms in this guide. Here’s how to fix Apex Legends being stuck on patching files.
Help With Apex Legends Stuck on Patching Files (Steam and Origin)
As is the case with most modern technology and software, a good ol’ restart should do the trick. It doesn’t matter if you are on Steam or Origin, the procedure is more or less the same. You open your Taskbar in Windows in the bottom-right corner, right-click the Steam or Origin icon, and exit the software.

An alternative way of doing this is to open the Task Manager in Windows by simultaneously pressing Ctrl, Shift, and Escape. Upon opening the Task Manager, navigate to Processes and then turn off Steam or Origin by pressing the End Process button after selecting the appropriate process.
Once Steam or Origin have been turned off through any of the above methods, you are free to start them up again, the usual way you do it.

In case the issue still persists, you should attempt to repair your game files (or verify the integrity, depending on the platform in question).
You can do this on Steam by selecting Apex Legends in your Library with the right click of your mouse, then selecting “Properties,”, heading out to “Local Files,” and then the “Verify integrity of the game files” button. If there is something wrong with your files, they will be replaced by Steam’s servers.
For Origin, when you want to repair a game from your Collection, click the gear icon and then choose the “Repair” option.
Similar to what Steam does, Origin will check your local files for any discrepancies and replace faulty files from its servers.

The download will then resume once you restart Steam or Origin. If the issue still persists, contact the appropriate support team (Valve or EA).
