Elden Ring will give players ample ways to die, including from a status effect called Scarlet Rot. Scarlet Rot can afflict players in multiple environments throughout the game, although the constant sign that it’s a present threat will be a deep red liquid that players will need to wade through.
You won’t be instantly affected by the Scarlet Rot. Instead, it will build up over time as a bar grows in the middle of the screen. When that bar fills, you will be afflicted by the status, which will then reduce health until the status is removed or naturally diminishes over time.
How to cure Scarlet Rot
To cure Scarlet Rot, you will need an item called Preserving Boluses. These consumables will remove Scarlet Rot build-up and completely remove the status if you are already affected by it. To make Preserving Boluses, players will need to make their way to Siofra River Well in East Limgrave and head down into the underground area. Behind the Site of Grace called Siofra River Bank, players will find the Armorer’s Cookbook (6) that will allow them to craft the Preserving Boluses.
To make it, players will need the following resources:
- 1 Crystal Cave Moss – can be found in Stillwater Cave near the Stormveil Castle entrance in Liurnia of the Lakes
- 2 Dewkissed Herba – can be found in great quantities underground in Siofra River
- 1 Sacramental Bud – can be found at the Church of the Plague in Caelid, or at Mt. Gelmir.
