It’s almost time for hockey season which means NHL 22 is right around the corner as well. This year, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs is gracing the cover.  It’s no surprise there, as Auston has been one of the best players in the league since his rookie season in 2016.

NHL 22 Reveal Trailer Shows Off X-Factor Abilities & More

The reveal trailer for NHL 22, showcases the new and improved graphics now that the game is running on the Frostbite engine. Previously the NHL series ran on the Ignite engine, but Frostbite is the same one that other EA games like Battlefield and Anthem run on.

The newest addition to the NHL series is the X-Factor abilities. Superstars like Auston Matthews, Matt Barzal, and others will have their signature moves to use when shooting the puck. You can see Barzal’s between the leg toe drag in the trailer below.

The X-Factor abilities arent’ new to the EA sports games, in fact, Madden 20 had introduced them, but it’s a first for NHL. This isn’t surprising since NHL has always been the black sheep of the EA sports family.

Of course, there are two different versions you can pre-order, which can be seen in the image below.

It is important to note, if you want dual entitlements you’ll need to purchase the X-Factor edition. This means if you buy the X-Factor edition on PlayStation4 or Xbox One, you’ll get a free upgrade if you transition to a PlayStation5 or Xbox Series X without having to purchase the game again.

NHL 22 releases on October 15, 2021 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
