Today, pretty much out of nowhere, Sony dropped notice it’s PS VR Spotlight day. We don’t know how many announcements we’re going to be hit with, but the first one is here. And it’s a hell of a start. DOOM 3 is coming back with a new VR Edition, and it’ll be coming to the PlayStation 4 (playable on PS5) later this month on March 29, 2021.
This is the complete version of DOOM 3, including the expansions Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission. The game has been “retooled” for VR, which is explained as new textures, shaders and sound effects.
Other announced features include motion controls (aiming around corners), a 180-degree quick turn and a “wrist-mounted display” for a sort of physical HUD experience.
You can check out a trailer as we’ve embedded above, but technically you’ll have to pop over to YouTube due to its, well, obvious age-restriction.
DOOM 3 has technically appeared on VR platforms, via a mod made for the Oculus Quest platform. This is an official take on the concept though, so we’re curious to see if it stays on PS VR or not.
Either way, we have that March 29 release date, but no sign of a price yet. We’ll drop it here if that comes out later today. In the meantime, let us know what you think about this news by hopping over to the Prima Games Twitter and Facebook pages!
