Vicarious Visions Merged Into Blizzard to Work On Existing Blizzard IP

A lot to unpack here.

Vicarious Visions, the studio behind Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remake and the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, has now been fully merged into Blizzard. This means that it will be working on existing and new Blizzard initiatives.

This news comes from Gamesindustry.biz, which spoke to the publisher directly. You can read a quote from the article right below.

“Going forward, the Vicarious Visions team of about 200 people will be employees of Blizzard and “fully dedicated to existing Blizzard games and initiatives,” which means the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 studio will no longer be creating games as the lead developer.”

The studio will now focus on providing support for Blizzard properties. While it’s uncertain where exactly the studio will be put internally at the moment, there are a plethora of Blizzard properties to choose from.

This also means we probably won’t see more Tony Hawk from the studio anytime soon. This may be a bummer for fans hoping to see an underground or American Wasteland remake of the same caliber.

Activision acquired vicarious Visions in 2005, and after 16 years of producing games for Activision, it makes sense that Blizzard would want that talent on the other side of the company.
