However, if you are short on Bells or are trying to complete your deep-sea creature collection, then you’ll want to try and catch the inky creature. In this guide, we are going to explain everything you need to know about how to catch the Vampire Squid in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Vampire Squid – Months, Time, and Bells

Players can catch the Vampire Squid in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by following fast-moving, large shadows in the ocean. The squid can be caught from 4 PM-9 AM local time and is worth 10,000 Bells when sold. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Vampire Squid will appear from May-August and in the Southern Hemisphere it will appear from November-February.

As we mentioned above, the Vampire Squid is one of the most valuable creatures in the game but is quite tough to catch due to its quick-moving shadow. Your best bet is to swim towards where you think the shadow is going to be and to be ready to quickly hit the dive button when you meet the shadow. It’ll be tough at first, but with some practice you’ll be able to get the hang of it in no time. There are also some slower moving creatures that you can practice while you get the hang of it.

If you happen to catch a Scallop, you’ll be able to trade it to a friendly otter named Pascal who will offer you Mermaid DIY recipes or a Pearl for the creature. There are a handful of recipes in the Mermaid set that players can collect, most of which will require a Pearl to make, so be sure to save those! If you haven’t been swimming yet, you’ll need to pick up a wetsuit before you can hop in the water. Once you have that, you’ll be all set and ready to go!

Swimming and diving came to New Horizons as part of the July summer update. Nintendo has also been teasing an August update which will undoubtedly add some new features and creatures to the game for players to interact with. Further, on specific summer days, there is also a Bug Off event that will task players with catching a bunch of different creatures in a specific amount of time. Those who hit the mark will be rewarded with some pretty cool items.
