New Call of Duty 2020 details have leaked for what is reported to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Gone are the roman numerals, the next step for the Black Ops portion of this franchise is taking us to the Cold War era and will reportedly take the series back to its beloved historical roots.

The original Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War leak originated from known leaker Okami on Twitter. Later, more and more sources have backed up these claims, with the most recent being vouched for the folks over at Eurogamer. Prima also reached out to our own sources, all seemingly confirming that Cold War is very much the next step in the franchise, though no official confirmation has been made public at this time.

We already know that a new Call of Duty is on the way both from Activision having previously confirmed a 2020 installment and from the fact that this is an annual franchise. That being said, the Black Ops trail has been awfully warm as well, especially when looking at the rotation of studios that take to this series and how a Black Ops entry would be right on schedule.

With the Cold War-style bunkers now opening up in Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War would definitely make sense if that was a clever tease from the publisher.

It will be interesting to see when the full reveal happens to see how many of the rumors are rooted in truth, especially so with the latest leaks referring to the return of a single-player story, something Black Ops 4 left out – a decision that was not taken kindly by fans.

We’ll be learning more about what’s next for Call of Duty, and hopefully Black Ops Cold War, next month during EA’s planned digital showcases to supplement for new E3 this year due to COVID-19. What do you hope to see from the next Call of Duty reveal? Do you like the thought of Black Ops Cold War or would you like them to go back to future and present-day narratives?
