If you cast your mind all the way back to February of this year (yes, we know that seems like a lot), you might remember all the uproar around Mewtwo Max Raids kicking around in Pokemon Sword and Shield which also introduced the likes of the Kanto starters into those famed battles.

You can refresh your memory here with our coverage of the Pokemon Day 2020 Pokemon Sword and Shield celebrations if you like! As you might recall, while the Kanto starters (Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander) were kicking around Sword and Shield, it was only to be until March 2.

Now that the time is well up, you might be wondering where to find Squirtle in Galar. Though more importantly, as common sense will tell you that these Pokemon aren’t native to the region, how to get Squirtle into Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Now, there are a number of ways – you can move one over from Pokemon Let’s Go, trade it with a mate who has a few from the Max Raids, or wait until Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home functionality is totally worked out. However, there’s a more immediate solution that Pokemon Home power users may already have stumbled across.

Yes, you can technically find Squirtle in Pokemon Sword and Shield by linking your Nintendo account with Pokemon Sword and Shield to Pokemon Home on a mobile device. Here are the steps that you have to take:

  • Download Pokemon HOME on your Switch and start it up

  • Boot up your Pokemon Sword and Shield boxes if you want to give it a test

  • Download Pokemon Home on your mobile device (iOS or Android)

  • When prompted on the mobile app, link your Nintendo account

  • You’ll be prompted to pick between Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle (pick Squirtle!)

  • Log back into Pokemon Home on your Switch and boot up your Galar boxes

  • You should see your chosen Squirtle in the main Home box and ready to be transferred to Sword and Shield
