The gaming community continues to rise and exceed expectations in popular mainstream media and companies of all types are stepping into the arena. While Amazon has been in the game for a little bit now from both a retailer stance as well as a publisher, it looks like they’ve got big streaming plans on the horizon as well and those plans are looking to launch sooner than expected.
The New York Times reports that Amazon’s alleged streaming service, Project Tempo, will be officially announced soon alongside an early release of a prototype version of this service. That being said, the same report says that some people close to the project are stating that a 2021 release may be more doable with the continued spread of COVID-19 prolonging quarantines and disrupting usual work processes.
Amazon has definitely upped their gaming presence in the past year as well with a few games currently in the works, including the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings MMORPG as well as New World and Crucible. “The big picture is about trying to take the best of Amazon and bringing it to games,” said Mike Frazzini, Amazon’s vice president for game services and studios, to the site. “We have been working for a while, but it takes a long time to make games, and we’re bringing a lot of Amazon practices to making games.”
NYT also reports that Amazon is looking to ship out both Crucible and New World sometime next month, though release dates haven’t been offered at this time outside of the window. “We just don’t know where the world is going to be in a couple of weeks,” said Amazon’s Castle. “The executives decided to delay the game, he said, “rather than put a ton of pressure and onus upon a team that’s worked very hard for many years of their lives when they might be going through some pretty difficult times with themselves or loved ones.”
If the launches of the new games in development goes well, the empire that Amazon could potentially create would be amazing. Studio acquisitions could be on the horizons as well as more first-party adventures, and they’ve already proven that they are wanting to tackle many genres as seen with the team-based shooter Crucible and the 17th century-inspired Old World.
